Making a Burguen-style Doublet, Lesson 1

In this lesson we will discuss the doublet and make the pattern. All these lessons correspond to the process that is given in The Modern Maker Vol. 1: Men’s Doublets.

Doublet Lesson 2

Cut out all the layers and begin to put it assemble the parts

 
 

Doublet Lesson 3

In this video, we finish the skirting and prepare the front canvas with its wool and pad stitching.

Doublet Lesson 4

In this lesson we will stiffen, pad stitch, and form the canvas for the doublet and begin applying the exterior fabric over the canvas

 
 

Doublet Lesson 5

In this lesson we will finish up the basting the exterior fabrics to the canvases and begin sewing the main seams.

Doublet Lesson 6

In this lesson we will be putting the linings into place, learn how to manipulate the side back seam and then stitch it. We begin to see the doublet really start to take shape in this lesson

 
 

Doublet Lesson 7

In this lesson, we will close the shoulders, pad stitch the collar and make the lacing strip for the waist

Doublet Lesson 8

In this lesson we will apply the trim to the armholes and side back seams. Then we will attach the skirting and the interior lacing strip at the waist.

 
 

Doublet Lesson 9

In this lesson, we will make the sleeves, baste them into the armhole to test their position, then correct and stitch them permanently into the armholes.

Doublet Lesson 10

In this final lesson, we will permanently stitch the sleeves into the armhole and line the collar. We will complete all the finishings and make the buttons.
