Season 3 Episode 3! This is the third and final installment for the Pair of Bodies lessons! In this video we will be binding, boning and finishing up.

Stays 1560-1630 Lesson 1

In this video we will draft the pattern and cut the pieces. This style of stays is also known as a “pair of bodies.” It was a common shape for around 100 years. Though the pattern comes from a tailor’s manual of 1588, Spain, there is a surviving example from the early 17th century. They are not meant to crush the waist, but to hold snug while supporting the bust.

Stays 1560-1630 Lesson 2

In this video we will continue the assembly of the stays, make the bone channels and stitch the side back seams.

Stays 1560-1630 Lesson 3

In this, the final video for the stays project, we will add shoulder straps, bind edges, work eyelets and finish off our stays.
