Scrolling Laces
Getting Started
The pattern is prepared in much the same way as for punto in aria. the main difference is the manner in which the tacking stitches are used. Instead of tacks which are perpendicular to the line of working, The needle making the tack stitches comes up from the back of the card, passes over the foundation thread and then goes back through the same hole. The structure is the same as what a sewing machine makes. It is called a “lock stitch.” This enables the foundations to be laid with more solidity and allows for more organic perimeters around the shapes while still maintaining a secure position. Unlike punto in aria, there is a ring of foundation thread that follows the outlines of the shapes as they are worked. The final line of buttonhole stitches goes around the whole shape to smooth and tidy the form.
