Openwork Seam Treatment

This is one of my favorite ways to make seams in early 17th century shirts. Each piece gets hemmed around the edges and then, once all pieces are prepared, this openwork seam is used to join all of the pieces together. The result is a lovely, lace-like detail that also allows slightly more airflow while wearing the shirt, making it even more comfortable.
